IPL 2024

Two Bouncers Allowed: A Bowler’s Paradise!

Imagine facing not one, but two bouncers per over! That’s right, folks. The IPL 2024 season is shaking things up by allowing bowlers to unleash two bouncers in each over. This rule, tested during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, aims to level the playing field between batsmen and bowlers, adding an extra layer of excitement and strategy to the game.

Veteran bowler Jaydev Unadkat is all praises for this rule change, emphasizing how it gives bowlers a significant advantage. With more surprises up their sleeves, bowlers are gearing up to dominate the pitch like never before.

In the upcoming IPL 2024 season, the Impact Player Rule, which was first introduced in IPL 2023, will continue to be in effect.

The BCCI has been busy tweaking the rulebook to elevate the IPL experience to new heights. Here’s a glimpse of the exciting rule changes for IPL 2024:

  • Hike in Uncapped Player Salaries: Uncapped Indian players will now enjoy increased IPL salaries, rewarding their stellar performances on the international stage.
  • Strategic Team Selection: Captains can now walk in with two different team sheets, allowing for dynamic adjustments based on toss results.
  • Enhanced DRS Usage: IPL 2024 introduces two DRS reviews per inning, empowering players to challenge wides and no-balls with confidence.

IPL 2024 format

  1. Group Stage: The ten teams are split into two groups of five each. Teams play a total of 14 games in this stage. They face the other four teams in their group twice, once at their home ground and once away. They also play against four teams from the other group once and play the remaining team in the other group twice.
  2. IPL Points System: In each match, the winning team gets 2 points. The losing team doesn’t get any points. If a match ends in a tie or doesn’t have a result, both teams get 1 point each.
  3. Playoff Stage: After the group stage, there’s an exciting playoff round using the Page playoff system. It consists of four games:
    • Qualifier 1: This match is between the top two teams from the group stage.
    • Eliminator: Teams that finished third and fourth in the group stage face off in this game.
    • Qualifier 2: The losing team from Qualifier 1 goes against the winner of the Eliminator.
    • Final: The winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2 compete in the ultimate match to determine the champion of the tournament.

It’s a thrilling format that ensures every game counts and leads to an intense climax to the tournament.

IPL 2024 Auction: Dubai Calling!

For the first time ever, the IPL auction will be held outside of India. All teams gathered in Dubai to bid for players to join their squads.

There are some important rules to follow during the auction:

  1. No team can spend more money than they have in their purse. This means they can’t buy players beyond their budget.
  2. Each team must spend at least 75% of the total money they have for the auction. They can’t hold onto too much cash without using it.
  3. In previous auctions, teams had the option to use a “Right to Match” card to retain a player they wanted. However, this time, that option is not available.
  4. Teams must have a balanced squad. They can’t have too many or too few players. Each team should have between 18 to 25 players.
  5. When it comes to the players themselves, there are some limits. Each team can have a maximum of 25 Indian players, but they must have at least 17. Similarly, they can have up to 8 international players, but there’s no minimum requirement for international players.

These rules are in place to ensure fairness and balance among the teams participating in the IPL 2024 season.
